Book launch: Water – a critical introduction

Book cover

King’s College London Water Centre co-directors Katie Meehan, Reader in Environment and Society and Naho Mirumachi, Professor of Environmental Politics, will present their new book Water: A Critical Introduction at IHE Delft in a 1 June mid-day seminar. The seminar is open to all who can attend in person. Remote participation is not possible.

The book examines the most pressing water-related challenges, arguing that flows of water are shaped by social practices and geometries of power. It reveals the hydrosocial relations often hidden in mainstream accounts of water, and looks at current issues such as water scarcity, floods, global water governance, legal conflicts, human rights, potable water provision, health and the water-food-energy nexus.

In addition, it features reflections on the imperial history of water, stretching back five centuries, and connects the past to the present to offer insights into future challenges. The book is the first major text synthesising critical water research from both local and global perspectives.

At the seminar, Meehan and Mirumachi will discuss the book with:
