Events & Media

In line with one of the programme's aims of improving access to, and sharing of, gained knowledge and experiences, this page will showcase our events and media outputs. Below you will find a selection of past webinars and podcasts related to the Water and Development Programme phase 2 (DUPC2). With the programme ending in December 2024, there will be no more events hosted under phase 2.

Calendar

  • WDPP Events

This calendar previously showcased all upcoming events for phase 2 of the Water and Development Partnership Programme. As the programme ends in December 2024, there will be no more events hosted under phase 2. But not to worry, the programme will continue hosting events in the on-going phase 3. To stay up to date regarding these events, we recommend you keep an eye on their webpage or their LinkedIn

WDPP x The Water Channel

Phase 2 of the Water and Development Partnership Programme collaborated with The Water Channel to host online learning sessions and podcasts, as well as produce articles. The organized (online) thematic knowledge sharing and learning sessions aimed to bring together projects to reflect on outcomes and experiences towards contributing to solving water and development challenges.

Through these sessions we sought to highlight interesting examples of projects and activities to answer the following overarching questions:

  • What have we (projects, partners) learned?
  • What are next steps towards contributing towards achieving impact what is needed to take these steps?
  • What is the role of partnerships in this?

All of the webinars, as well as the podcasts and articles produced throughout pahse 2 in collaboration with The Water Channel, can be found on the link below.

Highlighted Webinars

  • Wastewater Treatment and Reuse (June 8th, 2023)

This webinar aims to address the central question of: How can we use wastewater treatment and reuse to support crop production and address water scarcity? In particular: What are interesting examples (of projects, case studies, activities) showcasing the added values of waste water treatment and reuse? What have we (projects and partners) learned through designing and implementing wastewater treatment and reuse practices in different contexts? What are next steps towards wastewater treatment and reuse at scale? What is the role of partnerships in developing, using and promoting wastewater treatment and reuse?

  • Creating Societal Impact – Insights for Water and Development (27 February 2023)

For societal impact to be structural and sustainable, water and development projects strive to shift from conventional monitoring and evaluation (M&E) towards engaging and empowering stakeholders, ultimately creating tangible changes in people’s livelihoods and living conditions. This webinar will synthesize insights and experience from different DUPC2 projects on societal impacts, and feature a panel discussion with invited speakers. It invites a collective reflection and exchange of ideas on moving from the sphere of control (from input to outputs), towards the sphere of influence (outcomes) to the sphere of interest (impacts).

  • Groundwater Sanitation revealing the hidden links and risk management – IHE Delft Alumni and Partner Seminar (15 December 2022)

World Toilet Day 2022 underlined the impact of sanitation on groundwater. In this online seminar, Dr. Konstantina Velkushanova, Senior Lecturer in Non-Sewered Sanitation at IHE Delft and Dr. Jan Willem Foppen, Associate Professor of Hydrology at IHE Delft, will share their insights and perspectives about the important, yet often invisible, linkages between sanitation and groundwater quality. The presentations will highlight mechanisms of groundwater contamination from sanitation sources, and the associated risks on water supply and public health. Furthermore, two case studies will be presented on urban aquifers affected by waste water infiltration. The discussion will explore management strategies and solutions from both domains.

  • Building resilient rivers and deltas – taking stock from research and practices from the DUPC2 programme (25 November 2022)

Water resources, fertile soil, life-sustaining ecosystems, energy through hydropower: rivers and deltas provide some of the most essential resources for local populations and socio-economic development. This webinar takes stock of research and practices on rivers and deltas, conducted as part of DUPC2-supported projects. Join our webinar to learn, reflect and discuss: which evidence and good practices can we leverage for building resilient river deltas?

    Speakers:

    • Dr. Anamika Barua, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, Project “Science communication for water diplomacy in the Brahmaputra river basin”
    • Yasir Hageltom, Hydraulics Research Center Sudan, Project “River basin simulation for improved transboundary water management in the Nile: case study of the Tekezze-Atbara sub-basin
    • Dr. Hong Quan Nguyen and Dr. Nguyen Van Kien, Vietnam National University, Project “Flood-based farming systems for enhancing livelihood resilience in the floodplain of upper Mekong delta”
