Project Assistant

Gofran Ahmed

Gofran Ahmed is a young researcher with an MSc in Water and Sustainable Development from IHE Delft. She has teaching and research experience at University of Khartoum and Materials and Nanotechnology Research Centre. She was recognized with awards for academic excellence and outstanding project work during her BSc in Chemical Engineering at University of Khartoum. Also, during her MSc she developed a novel methodology that combines explicit hydrodynamic modelling, classical empirical expressions for sediment trap efficiency, and artificial neural networks to study how the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam will impact sediment transport to the lower Blue Nile River and sedimentation in the Roseires Reservoir in Sudan. Recently, she received the Schlumberger Award to pursue her PhD at IHE Delft.

Her areas of interest include machine learning, process simulation, and mathematical modelling. Additionally, she has a keen interest in water quality and drinking water treatment. Gofran admires the role of education, applied research, and community awareness. She aspires to make meaningful contributions to the academic field and raise awareness within her community. She is an active member of the Eastern Nile Network and the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World  (OWSD) and has been involved in various community outreach activities supporting women's education.

Currently, she is working on the water, peace, and security project to develop a decision support tool for optimizing dam operation using machine learning algorithms.
