Erwin has over 25 years of experience in International Higher Education and Capacity Development. In the early part of his career his focus was on project acquisition and project management. He headed the Project Office of IHE for several years before making the transition to the Office of the Rector. In this capacity he worked closely with the institute’s Rectorate and Governing Board in policy and strategy development, implementation and monitoring, and was responsible for marketing and communications. In 2012, Erwin was appointed head of the Education Bureau, a new organizational unit for which he developed the terms of reference and staffing plan.
As the Head of the Education Bureau Erwin is responsible for developing and facilitating the implementation of education-related policies, stimulating and supporting innovation in education, and developing and maintaining quality-assurance processes and systems. The Bureau provides advanced didactical skills training and issues the University Teaching Qualification diploma. It manages the virtual learning environment for IHE Delft and selected partners, and supports its use for in-house and online education. The Education Bureau also administers all educational offerings and is responsible for scheduling, logistic planning, marks administration, diplomas and academic ceremonies. All these activities are geared to establishing a better quality and more innovative education programme, managed in a consistent and transparent manner.
Under Erwin’s supervision IHE (re-)accredited four MSc programs in 2014 and 2018, established new accredited MSc programs in 2017 and 2021, and successfully completed NVAO Institutional Audits in 2015 and 2019. The first audits prompted the institute to create a well-documented quality assurance system, which resulted in a transparent quality framework with an established vision, educational concept, policies, terms of reference, QA calendar and work flows.
