Brindha joined IHE as a Lecturer in Hydrogeology in the Water Resources and Ecosystems Department. Her research interests encompass hydrogeochemistry, managed aquifer recharge (MAR), and quantifying the impacts of climate change on groundwater.
Having completed her post-graduation in Environmental Science and earned a PhD in Environmental Geosciences from Anna University, India, she served as a post-doctoral fellow at the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) in Lao PDR. At IWMI, her research focused on MAR, capturing excess floodwater, assessing utilization opportunities, and understanding downstream impacts.
Following her time at IWMI, she undertook a postdoc position at the National University of Singapore, delving into the water-food nexus and its influence on national and international groundwater resources. Before joining IHE, she held the position of Lecturer and Researcher at the Hydrogeology Working Group, Freie Universitaet Berlin, Germany, where she completed her Habilitation in Hydrogeology. Her research at Freie Universitaet Berlin centered on 'Integrated Water Resources Management,' aiming to develop novel solutions for real-time environmental problems considering hydrogeological, hydrological, social, and policy aspects. All her projects have had an applied nature, focusing on groundwater issues with a strong capacity-building component. Her international experience spans several projects in low- and middle-income countries from the Global South, including India, Lao PDR, Zambia, Namibia, Malaysia, China, South Africa, and Jordan.
Brindha is the recipient of the Linnaeus Palme Fellowship and serves as an Associate Editor of the Hydrogeology Journal.
