Biswa Bhattacharya is an Associate Professor of Hydroinformatics in the Hydroinformatics Chair Group of the Integrated Water Systems and Governance at IHE Delft Institute for Water Education.
Biswa Bhattacharya has a PhD degree in Hydroinformatics from Delft University of Technology and IHE Delft Institute for Water Education. He also holds an MSc degree in Hydroinfomratics (with distinction) from IHE Delft and a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) from Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, India. Prior to his PhD he was engaged in India in numerical modelling of river systems and in hydraulic and hydrological data collection, analysis and management, and in designing and monitoring of engineering protection. His professional interests include flood risk management, hydrological modelling and forecasting, flood mapping and coastal flooding. He has also long experiences in coordinating and managing research, educational and capacity building projects of national and international standards. He is connected with networks of hydrologists (e.g. International Association of Hydrological Sciences) and international organisations (e.g. WMO and UNESCO) and with their activities. He wrote several publications, journal papers, conference proceedings and chapters in books. Since 2010 he is coordinating a pan-European Masters programme on flood risk management.
