Khin Nawarat is from Myanmar. She is a Ph.D. candidate at the Coastal & Urban Risk & Resilience Department, under Coastal Systems & Engineering and Port Development Chair Group. Khin obtained her Bachelor’s (with distinction) and Master’s degrees from Myanmar Maritime University with the specialization of Port and Harbour Engineering. She received another Master’s degree in Coastal Engineering and Port Development (with distinction) from IHE Delft. As her graduation research, she estimated the coastal flood risk of European critical infrastructure under current and future climate scenarios which involved a continental scale geospatial data handling and parallel processing. She also has teaching and supervising experience from her previous career as a part time teaching assistant in Myanmar Maritime University.
For her current Ph.D., Khin will work on the global scale study upon the topic of extreme sea level and climate change. Her main objective is to understand the climate change induced Extreme Sea Level signals and their consequences more comprehensively on a global scale. Apart from her Ph.D., she will also be engaged in education activities within her chair group such as coaching and supervision of MSc. students. Her field of expertise is in developing efficient models for large scale quantification and assessing climate change induced coastal hazards and impacts.
