Research Summary
His current PhD programme is within the policy analysis domain. Similar to his interdisciplinary background, he is conducting interdisciplinary research combining policy analysis, sustainability transformation, and water management. He also employs a transdisciplinary approach by working with society in developing knowledge in his research.
Ifan’s research investigates what can policy analysis do to support the sustainable water systems transformation agenda. Transformations entail reshaping societal values and belief systems. In a society where, diverse actors hold varying values, perspectives, interests and levels of power, the concept of sustainability is often contested. These contestations are evident in the historical evolution of water allocation and rights governance in Indonesia. Through his research, Ifan is experimenting policy analysis approach to support this transformation case in Indonesia.
