Balbina Nyamakura

Balbina is a PhD candidate in the Water Resources and Ecosystems Department. She is a Zimbabwean national with research background in disaster risk reduction, cross-sector collaboration, collaborative drought response, and climate change adaptation. Balbina is interested in identifying ways in which various collaboration mechanisms can contribute to effective governance in disaster preparedness and response to climate extreme events.

Prior to joining IHE Delft, Balbina was a research assistant with the African Climate and Development Initiative (ACDI) at the University of Cape Town. Her role included documenting case studies of Citizen Science initiatives in disaster risk management and their role in enhancing the resilience and sustainability of South African coastal cities. She was also a researcher at ICLEI Africa - Local Governments for Sustainability, where she used methods embodied by co-production and co-exploration to collect case studies on collaborative governance in municipal planning for climate-resilient development in Malawi and Zimbabwe.

Balbina holds a Master of Science degree in Environmental and Geographical Science from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, and a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Environmental Science from Rhodes University, South Africa.
