New Governing Board Member: Mr Abou Amani

IHE Delft is pleased to announce that Mr Abou Amani, the Director of the Division of Water Sciences and Secretary of the Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP), has been appointed as a member of the IHE Delft governing board as of 1 December, 2021.
Mr Abou Amani was appointed the Director of the Division of Water Sciences and Secretary of the Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP) in March 2021, a position he had held ad interim since June 2020. Before that, he served as IHP's Chief of the Executive Office of the Natural Science Sector.
Short bio
Mr Amani joined the IHP's Division of Water Sciences in January 2016 as the Chief of the Section on Hydrological Systems and Water Scarcity. In this position, based at the Paris Headquarters, he led and guided Section activities that provided Member States with improved knowledge, capacity, policy advice, methodologies and tools for addressing water related disasters, hydrological change and water scarcity challenges. From 2010 to 2015, he was based in IHP's Nairobi Regional office where he, as the Regional Hydrologist for Africa, was in charge of the implementation of the UNESCO International Hydrological Programme in Sub-Saharan Africa, raising awareness of IHP in Africa and building strategic partnerships with key regional water stakeholders to provide support to Africa member states. Earlier positions include Officer in Charge at the UNESCO Nairobi office and the UNESCO Maputo office. He joined UNESCO in 2006 as Natural Sciences Programme Specialist at the UNESCO Office in Accra.

The role of the Governing Board is to safeguard the mission and financial stability of IHE Delft. In addition, the Governing Board authorises the mid and long term strategy for the Institute, annual work plans and monitors compliance.
