IHE Delft joins Dutch State Visit and Economic Mission to Republic of Indonesia

Eddy Moors, Rector of IHE Delft joined the Dutch State Visit and Economic from 8 – 13 March 2020, along with 130 representatives from 112 companies, organizations, and knowledge institutions. This mission, led by the King and the Queen of the Netherlands and accompanied by Sigrid Kaag, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, Cora van Nieuwenhuizen, Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management, and Hans de Boer, director of employers’ organization VNO-NCW, visited Jakarta and Surabaya, as part of the theme Wastewater Management and Water Technology, one of five sectors covered by the Economic mission.

In Jakarta, Eddy Moors had a courtesy meeting at Balai Kota (City Hall) with the Governor of DKI Jakarta province, Dr. Anies Baswedan, to discuss future partnership and collaboration with DKI Jakarta on flood prevention. The Deputy Governor of Population and Settlement Control, Mrs. Ir. Suharti, MA., Ph.D., and Office of the Governor staff accompanied the Governor in the meeting.

Eddy Moors also attended the Netherlands Network Lunch, where Annette Wijering, Managing Director International Trade – RVO, gave the welcome speech, and continued with a matchmaking agenda, organized by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce, where the Rector met the Major of Banjarmasin City (South Kalimantan province) and other prospective participants (government, private sector, etc.).

He also had an opportunity to meet the Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, Sigrid Kaag and talked about IHE Delft and its intended collaboration with stakeholders in Indonesia.

In Surabaya, Eddy Moors gave a presentation on Capacity Building – Water Resources and Water Engineering (Welang river context) to seminar participants on Water Management & Flood Control of Welang River.

Besides seminars and meetings, Eddy Moors and all other members of this mission’s group had field trips in Jakarta (Bantar Gebang landfill, The Ocean Cleanup, etc.) and Surabaya (Jasa Tirta, SIER, wastewater treatment plan, re-use of waste water and waste collection, etc.).

Eddy Moors did not miss the opportunity to reconnect with some former students and attended an Alumni gathering in Surabya.
