IHE Delft Announces New Governing Board Member

IHE Delft is pleased to announce the appointment of Peter Glas, Delta commissioner of the Netherlands, to their Governing Board.
Peter has had a long and distinguished career in the field of water management, starting at WL|Delft Hydraulics (now Deltares) and including being appointed Water Reeve (chair) of Water Board De Dommel and an executive board member of the Dutch Association of Regional Water Authorities (Unie van Waterschappen), of which the last 6 years as the national chair. Since 2013 he has been serving as independent president of the OECD Water Governance Initiative.
Peter will replace Maarten Smits of Deltares on the Board and IHE Delft would like to express its sincere thanks to Maarten for his participation in the Governing Board over the last few years.
Maarten Smits is the managing director of Deltares, an independent research institute for water and the subsurface based in the Netherlands. Maarten has more than 30 years of experience in the field of water and the subsurface. Before joining Deltares five years ago, he was the managing director of Fugro GeoServices B.V. and Fugro Ecoplan in the Netherlands. He studied Civil Engineering at Delft University of Technology and obtained a Master of Business Administration at Twente School of Management.

Peter Glas is the Deltacommissioner of the Netherlands and since 2013 he has also held the position of independent president of the OECD Water Governance Initiative. From 2004-2015, he was executive board member of the Dutch Association of Regional Water Authorities (Unie van Waterschappen), the last 6 years of which he was the national chair. He began his career at WL|Delft Hydraulics (now Deltares), as a researcher and consultant in the field of integrated water management and since then he has had a long and distinguished career in this and related fields.
IHE Delft Governing Board
The role of the Governing Board is to safeguard the mission and financial stability of IHE Delft. In addition, the Governing Board authorises the mid and long term strategy for the Institute, annual work plans and monitors compliance.
