IHE Delft and COLFUTURO launch joint loan scholarship for Colombian scholars

A new partnership will strengthen educational ties between Colombia and the Netherlands, the Fundación para el Futuro de Colombia (COLFUTURO) has joined forces with the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education to introduce a pioneering loan-scholarship programme. This initiative will open opportunities for exceptional Colombian students by facilitating their MSc in Water and Sustainable Development at IHE Delft in the Netherlands.
The collaborative effort, known as the Joint Graduate Loan-Scholarship Programme, underscores a commitment to fostering cooperation and deepening connections between the two institutions. By offering shared financing for promising Colombian students enrolled in MSc degree programmes at IHE Delft, the programme sought to create a mutually beneficial educational exchange. The application deadline for candidates was 29 February 2024. The application deadline is now closed.
Academic merit
The primary criterion for selecting scholarship recipients is academic merit and potential. Exceptional students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievements and a clear commitment to advancing their education in the field of water and sustainable development will be eligible for this unique opportunity. The scholarship not only recognizes and rewards academic excellence but also aims to nurture the next generation of leaders in water-related disciplines. Prospective students interested in the program must first apply and gain admission to the Master's program. The MSc program at IHE Delft is renowned for its comprehensive curriculum and cutting-edge research opportunities.

Bangladesh: Small community grants with big, green effects in growing cities
In Bangladesh, rapid and largely unplanned urbanisation has reduced critical green spaces in cities, leaving communities with fewer public recreational areas and increasing their vulnerability to flooding and other environmental challenges. The population increase in smaller municipalities, known as pourashavas, comes with many challenges that demand urgent investment in climate- and water-resilient urban infrastructure. In the expanding pourashavas of Keshabpur and Raozan, severe flooding has occurred, and water management challenges have worsened. Poor drainage, sanitation and waste disposal practices are now major problems that could lead to water insecurity and reduced quality of life.

Md Ataul Gani earns PhD for research that paves way for sustainable river dredging
