Hungarian Hydrological Society awarded IHE Delft Senior Lecturer Honorary Foreign Member
The Hungarian Hydrological Society awarded László G. Hayde, IHE Delft Senior Lecturer in Irrigation Engineering, Honorary Foreign Member at its General Assembly held last month.
Dr. Hayde serves as Chairman of the Programme Committee and Programme Coordinator of the Water Science and Engineering Master Programme. He is also an Honorary Associate Professor of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Budapest University of Technology and Economics, and a member of the General Directorate of Water Management - Scientific Advisory Council in Hungary.
The Hungarian Hydrological Society, a social, scientific and professional association established in 1917, focuses on hydrology and water related sciences. It works to promote the development Hungary, to facilitate scientific and technical progress, to disseminate scientific knowledge and share information as well as to upgrade the knowledge of professionals working in different water related professional fields.
Dr. Hayde is Vice President Honorary of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) and Associate Editor of the Journal of ICID: Irrigation and Drainage, published by John Wiley and Sons Ltd. In 2020 he received the Major Award for the Advancement of Surface Irrigation of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE).
“I am honoured to join a distinguished group of honorary members, many of whom are from the Netherlands and have links with IHE Delft. During the Hungarian part of my career, I was active in the society - I delivered my first presentation there 39 years ago, and for many years, I was the secretary of its Department of Hydraulics and Engineering Hydrology,” Dr. Hayde said.
Leon Hermans, head of IHE Delft’s Land and Water Management department says that the honorary membership reflected Dr. Hayde’s significant contribution to water science. “His knowledge and experience benefit his colleagues and the Water Science and Engineering students he teaches and supports.”
The General Assembly also awarded former IHE Delft Rector Professor Andras Szollosi-Nagy Honorary Member.
