Egypt: New course on water scarcity and drought risks

A new regional short course offers water professionals from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region training in the field of water scarcity, including on topics such as water resources assessment, monitoring and forecasting, as well as adaptation approaches.
IHE Delft and the Nile Basin Capacity Building Network Foundation (NBCBN) are co-organizing the one-week course, to be held in January 2023 in Cairo, Egypt.
The course targets early to mid-career professionals with higher education degrees who work in the field of water and climate in the MENA region.
About 20 fellowships are available for applicants from Egypt, Djibouti, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, and Yemen. About a half of the fellowships will be awarded to candidates from Egypt. Fellowships cover the tuition fee, return air ticket and accommodation during the course. Applications are due 6 December.
The fellowships are financed through a project supported by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

New Algae Lab: research focussed on resource recovery in the water cycle
Linear systems have led to the over exploration of our planet’s natural resources, so it is time to develop technologies that focus on circularity. The new ecotechnologies need to remove harmful pollutants from the water cycle, while recovering the elements needed to sustain the growing population within planetary borders. To achieve this, IHE Delft recently opened its Algae Lab. The aim: to find technological solutions to improve water quality availability and resources recovery.
