Art and science symposium: Making Waves
Water has inspired numerous artists and scientists alike. However, even with this common interest in water, science and arts do not come together frequently. Our Art and Science Symposium Making Waves features different artists and scientists who, with unique perspectives, use art and science to call attention to the change taking place on our planet.
Lilian Cooper will launch her new book and explain how she maps the progress of the tide literally as it rolls onto our shores. IHE Delft Professor Dano Roelvink, a renown coastal zone scientist, will share his perspective and contribute to musical interludes, accompanied by a piano rendition.
Speakers also include Aafke Steenhuis, who uses drawings to capture the sights and sounds of world ports as they grapple with globalisation and climate change. IHE Delft Associate Professor Uta Wehn will lead a discussion with a panel and the audience. A reception will follow the Symposium.
Participants are welcome to IHE Delft as of 16.30, with the event starting at 17.00.
The programme includes remarks by IHE Delft Rector Eddy Moors and artist Lilian Cooper who will present her new book, Tidelines, and her work and art. Artist Aafke Steenhuis will discuss the book Big Rough Sea. IHE Delft Professor Dano Roelvink will discuss waves and coasts and play the saxophone. The symposium also includes discussion with a panel and the audience, led by IHE Delft Associate Professor Uta Wehn.
A reception will follow the event.
