Anwar Maqsood
Anwar Maqsood is from Pakistan. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Engineering and Technology, Taxila.
Anwar comes from a country that has many issues regarding water which include climate change, flooding, droughts, water resource management and water scarcity. One of the main issues in Pakistan is flooding. It is clear that there is an urgent need to process, manage and mitigate many degraded catchments, weaknesses in flood defence systems and most importantly a distorted set of river networks which consequently cause damages to infrastructure and livelihood worth millions of dollars. It is necessary for a country or an institution to have professionals with modern and advanced technical expertise to address these issues, in order to stimulate socio-economic development. Where water is known to be a vital source of our basic existence, it is also known to be the source of hazards. Anwar therefore decided to specialize in the field of hydraulic engineering.
As the world has become a global village, Anwar finds studying in a multicultural environment will further invigorate his ability to work in a diverse and dynamic environment. “The Netherlands has had a history with hydro hazards. Institutes like IHE Delft provide optimal theoretical and practical knowledge, research, practices and techniques. The teaching style at IHE Delft is very effective and focuses on providing practical solutions to problems. Moreover, the Institute has worldwide recognition of its research and experience.” Additionally, Anwar is enjoying his stay in Delft: he appreciates the beautiful architecture, fascinating landscape, canals of the ancient city and history of Netherlands.
After his graduation, Anwar plans to continue working at his current employer, Geoprobes.
My goal is to utilize and expand my knowledge in hydraulic engineering, including the application of modern tools, theory, practices and modelling, in order to be a part of providing solutions to current water problems.
