FirstRand Scholarship Programme

FirstRand IHE Delft Scholarship

The FirstRand Foundation, the corporate foundation of South African financial institution FirstRand Limited, has entered into a five-year partnership with IHE Delft Institute for Water Education, to allow for an outstanding South African student to undertake postgraduate study at IHE Delft in the Netherlands. This will be the third year of the partnership.

Academic merit

Scholarship recipients are selected primarily based on academic merit and potential. Exceptional students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievements and a clear commitment to advancing their education in the field of water and sustainable development are invited to apply for this unique opportunity. The scholarship recognizes and rewards academic excellence while also nurturing the next generation of leaders in water-related disciplines. Prospective students interested in the programme must first apply for and be admitted to the Master’s programme.

I encourage other South African students to seize this opportunity to expand their horizons and contribute to the critical challenge of securing water resources for our future.
Cindy Cherry, IHE Delft MSc student and awardee of the 2023 scholarship

The scholarship will provide full funding for one student a year to study for an MSc in Water and Sustainable Development at IHE Delft Institute for Water Education. FirstRand will conduct the interviewing and selection process, which will run concurrently with the FirstRand international postgraduate scholarship programme.

Candidates will be assessed based on academic excellence, leadership ability, community involvement and their potential to be a destiny changer. FirstRand and IHE Delft are looking for the best applicant who will benefit deeply from the opportunity and contribute to South Africa on their return.

Applications are open until Thursday 20 February 2025.

It has been a great learning experience at IHE Delft so far. Being able to discuss water issues and solutions in a global context with lecturers and peers from other countries has been invaluable.
